Snake: how a round works

Use a short break to learn the rhythm of Snake. Keep collecting apples. Hitting a wall or your body ends the round; filling the entire board wins. Look at what changes after your first action. Read the objective before making your first input. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

Practice beyond the first move

After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again. Keep the objective visible.

Your objective

Keep collecting apples. Hitting a wall or your body ends the round; filling the entire board wins. The feedback beside the game helps you follow the round. Keep the controls in easy reach.

The order of play

  1. Press Play to start the movement.
  2. Turn with arrow keys, swipes or the on-screen direction buttons.
  3. Each apple adds ten points and makes the snake longer.
  4. Pause when needed or start a new round.

Your inputs

Keyboard arrows, swipe gestures or the four direction buttons. Play / pause controls the movement. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Use one clear input at a time.

Follow the example

When moving right, you may turn up or down, but cannot turn immediately left into your own neck. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Keep the controls nearby.

Keep this in mind

The snake continues moving between inputs. Plan a route with space to turn. Compare the situation with the worked example. Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use.
